A compound having the formula (1), (2), (3) or (4), or combinations thereof, for use in the prevention or treatment of dehydration, and/or in the treatment of diarrhea, wherein R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 are independently, a long chain fatty acid having between 16 and 20 carbons.

A method for the prevention or treatment of dehydration comprising administering a compound having a formula selected from the group consisting of

An oral rehydration solution comprising a compound having the formula

A method for treating diarrhea comprising administering a composition comprising compounds having the formulas
- wherein the compound having formula (5) comprises at least 10% by weight of the total triglycerides in the composition, and wherein the compound having formula (6) comprises at least 10% by weight of the total triglycerides in the composition to an individual in need of same.
