Provided herein are compositions and formulations that are useful for stabilizing one or more bacteria (e.g., through drying). Methods of stabilizing the one or more bacteria are also disclosed.

A composition comprising (i) one or more different OTUs of viable bacteria, (ii) urea, and (iii) one or more excipients selected from a cryoprotectant, an amino acid source, an antioxidant, a salt, a buffering agent, or combinations thereof.
