Guide Pin Holder for Guide Pins in an Adapter

An adapter comprising:

• a main body extending from a first end to a second end;
• an opening extending between the first and second ends to receive respective fiber optic connectors therein;
• a first guide pin holder in communication with the opening from a first side of the adapter;
• a second guide pin holder in communication with the opening from a second side of the adapter;
• a third guide pin holder extending into the opening from the first side of the adapter and adjacent to the first guide pin holder;
• and
• a fourth guide pin holder extending into the opening from the second side of the adapter and adjacent to the second guide pin holder.

A guide pin retainer for an adapter to align two fiber optic ferrules along a longitudinal axis comprising:

• a first leg extending from the cross member at the first side and having the same thickness as the cross member;
• a second leg extending from the cross member at the second side and in a direction of the first leg and generally parallel thereto;
• and
• a detent on each of the first and second legs and facing one another, each detent configured to engage a corresponding guide pin disposed in the adapter to bias the guide pin against a portion of the adapter.
