Anhydrous antimicrobial topical formulations and methods of use thereof

An anhydrous topical ointment comprising:

• at least one polyethylene glycol from about 84 to about 99.75 wt %;
• a non-ionic surfactant from about 0.05 to about 2.0 wt %;
• a lipid material from about 0.1 to about 5.0 wt %;
• wherein the lipid material comprises a fatty acid, an oil, a wax, a triglyceride, or combinations thereof;
• at least one terpene from about 0.05 to about 2.0 wt %;
• a metal nanoparticle or nanocomposite from about 0.05 to about 2.0 wt %;
• and
• glycerin from 0 to about 5 wt %.
