Abstract
A printing device is provided comprising a camera to capture an image of at least a portion of a print substrate; a controller to determine a location of a portion of a side edge of the print substrate from the image to determine a distance of the print substrate from a predetermined location; and an adjustment apparatus to adjust the entire substrate laterally, relative to the direction of transport of the print substrate, based on the determined location.
Claims20
A printing device comprising:
- a memory to store information defining a plurality of search windows for detecting edges of an image located within the plurality of search windows, each search window of the plurality of search windows being associated with a respective substrate size;
- a camera to capture an image of at least a portion of a print substrate;
- a controller to:
- determine a size of the print substrate,
- select, from among the plurality of search windows, a search window for the determined size of the print substrate,
- determine, from the captured image within the selected search window, a location of a portion of a side edge of the print substrate to determine a distance of the print substrate from a predetermined location;
- and
- an adjustment apparatus to adjust, based on the determined location, the print substrate laterally relative to a direction of transport of the print substrate.
A method comprising:
- capturing, using a camera during registration of a print substrate in a printing device, an image of a portion of the print substrate;
- determining, by a controller, a size of the print substrate;
- accessing, by the controller, information defining a plurality of search windows stored in a memory, the plurality of search windows for detecting edges of an image located within the plurality of search windows, each search window of the plurality of search windows being associated with a respective substrate size;
- selecting, by the controller from among the plurality of search windows, a search window for the determined size of the print substrate
- determining, by the controller from the captured image within the selected search window, a location of a portion of a boundary of the print substrate;
- determining, by the controller, a distance of the location of the portion of the boundary from a predetermined location;
- and
- adjusting the print substrate laterally, relative to a direction of transport of the print substrate, based on the determined distance to relocate the print substrate, wherein the portion of the boundary is a portion of a side edge or a corner of the print substrate.
A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium comprising instructions that upon execution cause a controller to:
- receive a captured image of at least a portion of a print substrate, as captured by a camera;
- determine a size of the print substrate;
- access a memory that stores information defining a plurality of search windows for detecting edges of an image located within the plurality of search windows, each search window of the plurality of search windows being associated with a respective substrate size;
- select, from among the plurality of search windows, a search window for the determined size of the print substrate;
- determine, from the captured image within the selected search window, a location of a portion of a side edge of the print substrate to determine a distance of the print substrate from a predetermined location;
- and
- cause adjustment, based on the determined location, of the print substrate laterally relative to a direction of transport of the print substrate.
