## Abstract

The invention provides a detergent composition for the non-oxidative laundering of fabric stains, the composition comprising: (a) from 0.1 to 10% (by weight based on the total weight of the composition) of one or more deferoxamines and/or acid addition salts thereof; and (b) from 3 to 80% (by weight based on the total weight of the composition) of one or more detersive surfactants. The invention also provides a method for the non-oxidative laundering of fabric stains, comprising diluting a dose of the detergent composition defined above to obtain a wash liquor, and washing the stained fabric with the wash liquor so formed.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A detergent composition for the non-oxidative laundering of fabric stains, the composition comprising:
(a) from 0.1 to 10% (by weight based on the total weight of the composition) of one or more deferoxamines; and
(b) from 15 to 80% (by weight based on the total weight of the composition) of one or more detersive surfactants;
in which the one or more deferoxamines correspond to the general formula (I):
in which m is 3, 4 or 5; n and o are each independently 4 or 5; p is 0 or 1; R1 is a monovalent group selected from H— and CH3CO— or together with R2 forms a divalent —CO(CH2)2CO— group; and R2 is a monovalent group selected from —H, —COCI-h and —CO(CH2)2COOH; or together with R1 forms a divalent —CO(CH2)2CO— group; and/or an acid addition salt thereof selected from hydrochlorides, sulfates, phosphates, nitrates, methanesulfonates (mesylates), ethanesulfonates, ammonium salts and alkali metal salts;
in which the composition contains from 0 to 0.01% (by weight based on the total weight of the composition) of transition metal ions selected from Fe (III), Co (II), Co (III), Mn (II), Mn (III), Ce (III), Ce (IV), Zn (II) and Bi (III) and mixtures thereof; and in which the composition contains from 0 to 0.01% (by weight based on the total weight of the composition) of oxidising agents selected from halogen-based bleaches, oxygen-based bleaches and mixtures thereof.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

A composition according to claim 1, in which, in general formula (I), m, n and o are each 5; p is 0; R1 is H— and R2 is —COCH3.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

A composition according to claim 1, in which the total amount of deferoxamines and/or acid addition salts (a) ranges from 1 to 5% (by weight based on the total weight of the composition).

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

A composition according to claim 1, in which the one or more detersive surfactants (b) are selected from non-soap anionic surfactants, nonionic surfactants and mixtures thereof.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

A composition according to claim 1, in which the level of phosphonate sequestrants is no more than 0.2% (by weight based on the total weight of the composition).

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

A method for the non-oxidative laundering of fabric stains, comprising diluting a dose of the detergent composition as defined in claim 1, to obtain a wash liquor, and washing the stained fabric with the wash liquor so formed.

### Claim 7 (depends on 5)

The composition of claim 5, wherein the level of phosphonate sequestrants is from 0 to 0.1% (by weight based on the total weight of the composition).

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The composition of claim 7, wherein the level of phosphonate sequestrants is from 0 to 0.01% (by weight based on the total weight of the composition).

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The composition of claim 8, wherein the level of phosphonate sequestrants is 0% (by weight based on the total weight of the composition).
