## Abstract

Methods and composition for delivery of enzymes to a subject's airway. In some aspects, nebulized composition of enzymes, such as plasminogen activators are provided. In further aspects perfluorocarbon compositions comprising enzymes, such as plasminogen activators are provided. Compositions may, in some aspects, be used for the treatment of lung infections or acute lung injury, such as inhalational smoke induced acute lung injury (ISALI).

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of treating or preventing an injury, infection, or disease of the lungs in a subject comprising administering to the airway of the subject an effective amount of a nebulized solution of a caveolin-1 polypeptide comprising an amino acid sequence of FTTFTVT (SEQ ID NO: 1).

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the caveolin-1 polypeptide is no more than 20 amino acids in length.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein the caveolin-1 polypeptide consists of the amino acid sequence of DGIWKASFTTFTVTKYWFYR (SEQ ID NO:2).

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein the caveolin-1 polypeptide is no more than 10 amino acids in length.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4, wherein the caveolin-1 polypeptide consists of the amino acid sequence of FTTFTVT (SEQ ID NO: 1).

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The method of claim 6, wherein the vibrating mesh nebulizer is an active vibrating mesh nebulizer or a passive vibrating mesh nebulizer.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the nebulized solution is produced using a jet nebulizer or an ultrasonic nebulizer.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the nebulized solution is an aqueous solution.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9, wherein the nebulized solution comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9, wherein the nebulized solution comprises a pH buffering agent.

### Claim 12 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9, wherein the nebulized solution is phosphate buffered saline (PBS).

### Claim 13 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9, wherein the nebulized solution is normal saline.

### Claim 14 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the nebulized solution comprises an enzyme.
