The method can include topically applying an effective amount of a composition to skin in need thereof, wherein the composition comprises an aqueous extract of plankton comprising an exopolysacchride synthesized by Vibo alginolyticus, an aqueous extract of Phragmites communis, an aqueous extract of Poria cocos, and an aqueous extract of Cucurbita pepo (pumpkin) seed. ## Claims ### Claim 1 A method of treating skin, the method comprising topically applying an effective amount of a composition to skin in need thereof, wherein the composition comprises: an aqueous extract of plankton comprising an exopolysacchride synthesized by Vibo alginolyticus; an aqueous extract of Phragmites communis; an aqueous extract of Poria cocos; and an aqueous extract of Cucurbita pepo (pumpkin) seed. ### Claim 2 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, further comprising 4-tert-butylcyclohexanol. ### Claim 3 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition remains on the facial skin for up to 15 minutes and is then removed from the skin. ### Claim 4 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition is applied to irritated or inflamed skin and wherein skin irritation or skin inflammation is reduced. ### Claim 5 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition is applied to rough or dry skin. ### Claim 6 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition is applied to a fine line or wrinkle. ### Claim 7 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition is applied to skin having an uneven skin tone. ### Claim 8 (depends on 7) The method of claim 7, wherein the uneven skin tone comprises hyperpigmented or melasmic skin. ### Claim 9 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition moisturizes or hydrates skin. ### Claim 10 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition is an emulsion. ### Claim 11 (depends on 10) The method of claim 10, wherein the emulsion is an oil-in-water emulsion. ### Claim 12 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition further comprises: triethanolamine; glycerin; butylene glycol; sea water; cetearyl alcohol; arachidyl alcohol; sorbitan isostearate; dicaprylyl carbonate; biosaccharide gum-1; and behenyl alcohol. ### Claim 13 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition comprises: 0.0001 wt. % to 5 wt. % of the aqueous extract of plankton comprising an exopolysacchride synthesized by Vibo alginolyticus; 0.0001 wt. % to 5 wt. % of the aqueous extract of Phragmites communis; 0.0001 wt. % to 5 wt. % of the aqueous extract of Poria cocos; and 0.0001 wt. % to 5 wt. % of the aqueous extract of Cucurbita pepo (pumpkin) seed. ### Claim 14 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein: the aqueous extract of plankton comprising an exopolysacchride synthesized by Vibo alginolyticus reduces inflammation in the skin; the aqueous extract of Phragmites communis reduces inflammation in the skin; the aqueous extract of Poria cocos reduces inflammation in the skin; and the aqueous extract of Cucurbita pepo (pumpkin) seed increases collagen production in the skin and inhibits MMP3 activity in the skin. ### Claim 15 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition is formulated as a facial peel, mask, cream, or serum. ### Claim 16 A topical composition for treating skin, the topical composition comprising: an aqueous extract of plankton comprising an exopolysacchride synthesized by Vibo alginolyticus; an aqueous extract of Phragmites communis; an aqueous extract of Poria cocos; and an aqueous extract of Cucurbita pepo (pumpkin) seed. ### Claim 17 (depends on 16) The topical composition of claim 16, further comprising 4-tert-butylcyclohexanol. ### Claim 18 (depends on 16) The topical composition of claim 16, comprising: 0.0001 wt. % to 5 wt. % of the aqueous extract of plankton comprising an exopolysacchride synthesized by Vibo alginolyticus; 0.0001 wt. % to 5 wt. % of the aqueous extract of Phragmites communis; 0.0001 wt. % to 5 wt. % of the aqueous extract of Poria cocos; and 0.0001 wt. % to 5 wt. % of the aqueous extract of Cucurbita pepo (pumpkin) seed. ### Claim 19 (depends on 16) The topical composition of claim 16, wherein the topical composition is formulated as a facial peel, mask, cream, or serum. ### Claim 20 (depends on 16) The topical composition of claim 16, further comprising a moisturizing agent.
