The present invention relates to the field of microbiology, specifically the field of production of a dairy food product using fermentation and the field of gene transfer by conjugation.
Claims12
A method for gene transfer by conjugation comprising
- providing a composition comprising at least two bacterial strains, wherein at least one bacterial strain comprises an increased amount of expression product of a pilin gene cluster, wherein the amount of expression product is increased in view of Lactococcus lactis subsp cremoris NCDO712, and
- incubating the composition under conditions conducive to conjugation.
A method for the production of a desired bacterial strain comprising a genetic trait of interest, comprising
- a) providing a composition comprising:
- a precursor of the desired bacterial strain, wherein the precursor lacks the genetic trait of interest, and
- a donor bacterial strain comprising the genetic trait of interest,
- wherein at least on bacterial strain in the composition comprises a pilin gene cluster,
- b) incubating the composition under conditions conducive to conjugation, and
- c) optionally isolating the desired bacterial strain comprising the desired genetic trait of interest.
