Abstract
Analogues of an alternatively spliced form of atrial natriuretic peptide (MANP) that exhibit pGC-A gain of function and can be used to treat cardiorenal and metabolic disease are described herein.
Claims17
An isolated nucleic acid encoding a natriuretic polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:1, with the proviso that the polypeptide comprises one, two, three, four, or five amino acid additions, subtractions, or substitutions as compared to SEQ ID NO:1, wherein at least one addition, subtraction, or substitution is within positions 1 to 6 of SEQ ID NO:1.
A method for increasing natriuretic activity within a mammal, comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of a composition comprising a natriuretic polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:1, with the proviso that the polypeptide comprises one, two, three, four, or five amino acid additions, subtractions, or substitutions as compared to SEQ ID NO:1, wherein at least one addition, subtraction, or substitution is within positions 1 to 6 of SEQ ID NO:1.
A method for treating a cardiovascular or metabolic disorder in a mammal in need thereof, comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of a composition comprising a natriuretic polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:1, with the proviso that the polypeptide comprises one, two, three, four, or five amino acid additions, subtractions, or substitutions as compared to SEQ ID NO:1, wherein at least one addition, subtraction, or substitution is within positions 1 to 6 of SEQ ID NO:1.
