Abstract
A sound attenuator has an inner pipe (12) with expansion sections (121) of enlarged diameter corresponding to the constriction sections (141) of an outer pipe (14). The expansion sections (121) in pairs axially delimit an intermediate inner pipe section (122) containing a wall opening (18) and having a reduced diameter relative to the expansion sections (121). The inner surface of the outer pipe (14) in each of its constriction sections (141) is connected to the outer surface of the inner pipe (12) in its respective corresponding expansion section (121). A method of manufacturing such a sound attenuator (10) also is provided and uses internal high-pressure forming.
Claims12
A sound attenuator (10) for a fluid flow line, comprising an inner pipe (12) and an outer pipe (14) coaxially encompassing the inner pipe (12), the outer pipe (14) having a length and an inner surface that is spaced radially from an outer surface of the inner pipe (12) over a major part of the length of the outer pipe (14), the outer pipe (14) having at least two constriction sections (141) of reduced diameter and spaced apart from each other axially, the inner surface of the outer pipe being connected to the outer surface of the inner pipe (12) to form at least one axially and radially outwardly closed ring chamber (16) that is in fluid-exchanging contact with an interior of the inner pipe (12) via at least one opening (18) in a wall of the inner pipe,
- wherein:
- the inner pipe (12) has expansion sections (121) of enlarged diameter at axial locations corresponding to the constriction sections (141) of the outer pipe (14), said expansion sections (121) in pairs each axially delimiting an intermediate inner pipe section (122) containing the at least one wall opening (18) and having a reduced diameter relative to the expansion sections (121), wherein the inner surface of the outer pipe (14) in each of its constriction sections (141) is connected to the outer surface of the inner pipe (12) in its respective corresponding expansion section (121).
A method of manufacturing a sound attenuator (10) for a fluid flow line, comprising the steps of:
- providing an outer pipe blank (24),
- expanding the outer pipe blank (24) in certain sections by means of an internal high-pressure forming method to produce an outer pipe (14) with at least one expanded intermediate outer pipe section (142) that is delimited axially on both sides by two constriction sections (141) having a reduced diameter in relation thereto,
- coaxially sliding the outer pipe (14) onto an inner pipe (12) that is provided with at least one wall opening (18) arranged in an intermediate inner pipe section (122) such that the inner surface of the outer pipe (14) abuts in its constriction sections (141) against the outer surface of the inner pipe (12) and the wall opening (18) is positioned between the constriction sections (141),
- connecting the outer surface of the inner pipe (12) to the inner surface of the outer pipe (14) in the constriction sections (141),
- wherein
- the step of sliding the outer pipe (14) onto the inner pipe (12) is preceded by the following steps:
- providing an inner pipe blank (22),
- expanding the inner pipe blank (22) in certain areas by means of an internal high-pressure forming method to produce the inner pipe (12) with at least two expansion sections (121) of enlarged diameter, which between them axially delimit the intermediate inner pipe section (122) having a reduced diameter in relation thereto, and
- providing the inner pipe (12) and/or the inner pipe blank (22) with at least one wall opening (18) in the intermediate inner pipe section (122), wherein an axial distance between the expansion sections (121) of the inner pipe (12) corresponds to an axial distance between the constriction sections (141) of the outer pipe (14) and the respective inner diameter of the outer pipe (14) in its constriction sections (141) corresponds to the outer diameter of the inner pipe (12) in its corresponding expansion sections (121).
