## Abstract

A payment device including a medium is disclosed. A first programmable chip and a first magnetic stripe are disposed on the medium. The first programmable chip and the first magnetic stripe are associated with a first payment account. A second programmable chip and a second magnetic stripe are disposed on the medium. The second programmable chip and the second magnetic stripe are associated with a second payment account. The first and second programmable chips are programmed separately for each of the first and second payment accounts.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A payment device comprising:
a medium;
a first programmable chip disposed on the medium;
a first magnetic stripe disposed on the medium, wherein the first programmable chip and the first magnetic stripe are associated with a first payment account;
a second programmable chip disposed on the medium; and
a second magnetic stripe disposed on the medium, wherein the second programmable chip and the second magnetic stripe are associated with a second payment account;
wherein the first and second programmable chips are programmed separately for each of the first and second payment accounts.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The payment device of claim 1, wherein the first and second payment accounts have different expiration dates.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The payment device of claim 1, further comprising:
a third programmable chip disposed on the medium; and
a third magnetic stripe disposed on the medium, wherein the third programmable chip and the third magnetic stripe are associated with a third payment account.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The payment device of claim 3, further comprising:
a fourth programmable chip disposed on the medium; and
a fourth magnetic stripe disposed on the medium, wherein the fourth programmable chip and the fourth magnetic stripe are associated with a fourth payment account.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The payment device of claim 4, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth payment accounts each have a different expiration date.

### Claim 6

A payment device comprising:
a medium;
a master programmable chip disposed on the medium;
a first connector disposed on the medium and electronically connected to and in communication with the master programmable chip, wherein the first connector is associated with a first payment account;
a second connector disposed on the medium and electronically connected to and in communication with the master programmable chip, wherein the second connector is associated with a second payment account;
wherein the master programmable chip contains programmed logic that can be accessed by any of the first and second connectors.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The payment device of claim 6, wherein the master programmable chip determines if the first or second payment accounts should be used for a transaction.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The payment device of claim 7, further comprising:
a third connector electronically connected to and in communication with the master programmable chip, wherein the third connector is associated with a third payment account,
wherein the master programmable chip contains programmed logic that can be accessed by any of the first, second, and third connectors.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The payment device of claim 8, further comprising:
a fourth connector electronically connected to and in communication with the master programmable chip, wherein the fourth connector is associated with a second payment account;
wherein the master programmable chip contains programmed logic that can be accessed by any of the first, second, third, and fourth connectors.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The payment device of claim 9, wherein the master programmable chip determines if the first, second, third, or fourth payment accounts should be used for a transaction.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The payment device of claim 9, wherein the first, second, third, or fourth payment accounts have different expiration dates.

### Claim 12

A payment transaction system comprising:
a reader for reading a payment device, the reader being associated with a merchant payment account, wherein the payment device has two or more programmable chips disposed on a medium, each of the programmable chips being associated with a separate user payment account, and wherein one of the programmable chips is selected for use in the payment transaction; and
a payment processing network, wherein the payment processing network:
transmits a request for payment from the reader to an acquirer associated with the merchant account,
transmits an authentication request to an issuer associated with the user payment account selected for the transaction,
transmits payment from the user payment account selected for the transaction to the merchant account, and
transmits a payment confirmation message to the reader.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The payment transaction system of claim 12, wherein the payment processing network transmits new data from the issuer to the reader, wherein the new data is written onto the programmable chip selected for use in the payment transaction by the reader.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The payment transaction system of claim 13, wherein the new data is a new expiration date for the programmable chip selected for use in the payment transaction.

### Claim 15 (depends on 12)

The payment transaction system of claim 12, wherein the payment device has four programmable chips, and each of the programmable chips is associated with a separate user payment account.
