## Abstract

An item measuring system and its relate processes may perform operations that include receiving an image of an item and a reference tag; identifying a perimeter of the item; identifying a type of the reference tag; identifying known dimensions of the reference tag based on the type; determining dimensions of the item in standardized units based on the known dimensions of the reference tag; and outputting information identifying the dimensions of the item.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A computer-implemented method performed by an item measuring system comprising:
receiving an image of an item and a reference tag;
identifying a perimeter of the item;
identifying a type of the reference tag;
identifying known dimensions of the reference tag based on the type;
determining dimensions of the item in standardized units based on the known dimensions of the reference tag; and
outputting information identifying the dimensions of the item.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the determining the dimensions of the item further comprises:
determining a length represented by each pixel in the image based on the known dimensions of the reference tag;
determining the dimensions of item in the form of pixels in the image; and
converting the dimensions of the item in the form of pixels to the standardized units based on the length represented by each pixel.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the identifying the type of the reference tag comprises extracting features of the reference tag.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein the features include at least one of:
a barcode;
a Quick Response (QR) code;
an address;
a postage stamp;
an indicia;
a logo; and
a format or layout of content included on the reference tag;

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the image is received from a user device hosting an application for measuring the item based on capturing the image of the item.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the reference tag is affixed to the item.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The method of claim 6, wherein the reference tag includes at least one of:
a shipping label;
a standalone label; and
a three-dimensional object.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the image includes an isometric view of the item.

### Claim 9

A computer program product comprising a computer readable storage medium having program instructions embodied therewith, the program instructions executable by a computing device to cause the computing device to perform operations comprising:
receiving an image of an item and a reference tag;
identifying a perimeter of the item;
identifying a type of the reference tag;
identifying known dimensions of the reference tag based on the type;
determining dimensions of the item in standardized units based on the known dimensions of the reference tag; and
outputting information identifying the dimensions of the item.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The computer program product of claim 9, wherein the determining the dimensions of the item further comprises:
determining a length represented by each pixel in the image based on the known dimensions of the reference tag;
determining the dimensions of item in the form of pixels in the image; and
converting the dimensions of the item in the form of pixels to the standardized units based on the length represented by each pixel.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The computer program product of claim 9, wherein the identifying the type of the reference tag comprises extracting features of the reference tag.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The computer program product of claim 11, wherein the features include at least one of:
a barcode;
a Quick Response (QR) code;
an address;
a postage stamp;
an indicia;
a logo; and
a format or layout of content included on the reference tag;

### Claim 13 (depends on 9)

The computer program product of claim 9, wherein the image is received from a user device hosting an application for measuring the item based on capturing the image of the item.

### Claim 14 (depends on 9)

The computer program product of claim 9, wherein the reference tag is affixed to the item.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The computer program product of claim 14, wherein the reference tag includes at least one of:
a shipping label;
a standalone label; and
a three-dimensional object.

### Claim 16

A system comprising:
a processor, a computer readable memory, a non-transitory computer readable storage medium associated with a computing device, and program instructions executable by the computing device to cause the computing device to perform operations comprising:
receiving an image of an item and a reference tag;
identifying a perimeter of the item;
identifying a type of the reference tag;
identifying known dimensions of the reference tag based on the type;
determining dimensions of the item in standardized units based on the known dimensions of the reference tag; and
outputting information identifying the dimensions of the item.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The system if claim 16, wherein the determining the dimensions of the item further comprises:
determining a length represented by each pixel in the image based on the known dimensions of the reference tag;
determining the dimensions of item in the form of pixels in the image; and
converting the dimensions of the item in the form of pixels to the standardized units based on the length represented by each pixel.

### Claim 18 (depends on 16)
