## Abstract

A lens (1) comprising at least two regions, a first said region (3) being configured to pass incident light having a wavelength falling within a first band, and a second said region (5) being configured to pass incident light having a wavelength falling within a second band that is different to said first band.

## Claims

### Claim at position 1

1-17. (canceled)

### Claim 18

A lens comprising at least two regions, a first region being configured to pass incident light having a wavelength falling within a first band, and a second region being configured to pass incident light having a wavelength falling within a second band that is different from the first band.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)

The lens according to claim 18, wherein the first and second bands at least partly overlap.

### Claim 20 (depends on 18)

The lens according to claim 18, wherein the first and second bands are discrete from one another.

### Claim 21 (depends on 18)

The lens according to claim 18, wherein the lens is configured so that the first and second regions pass only the first and second bands, respectively.

### Claim 22 (depends on 18)

The lens according to claim 18, wherein the first region is configured to filter out shorter wavelengths of incident light, and the second region is configured to filter out longer wavelengths of incident light.

### Claim 23 (depends on 22)

The lens according to claim 22, wherein the first region is configured to pass light of wavelengths above about 490 nm.

### Claim 24 (depends on 23)

The lens according to claim 23, wherein the first region has a transmittance increasing from about 0.5 at 490 nm to approaching 1 at higher wavelengths.

### Claim 25 (depends on 18)

The lens according to claim 18, wherein the second region is configured to pass light having a wavelength between about 370 to 480 nm.

### Claim 26 (depends on 25)

The lens according to claim 25, wherein the second region has a transmittance increasing from about 0.5 at 400 nm to approaching 1 and reducing again to about 0.5 at roughly 480 nm.

### Claim 27 (depends on 18)

The lens according to claim 18, wherein the second region has a transmittance of approximately zero below 370 nm and thus filters out incident ultraviolet light.

### Claim 28 (depends on 18)

The lens according to claim 18, wherein the first region is substantially circular and located, at least approximately, centrally of the lens.

### Claim 29 (depends on 28)

The lens according to claim 28, wherein the second region is annular and located outside of the first region.

### Claim 30 (depends on 29)

The lens according to claim 29, wherein the first and second regions abut against one another.

### Claim 31 (depends on 30)

The lens according to claim 30, wherein the first region is roughly 2-3.5 mm, preferably less than or equal to approximately 3 mm in diameter, and the second region extends from the first region towards a peripheral edge of the lens.

### Claim 32 (depends on 31)

The lens according to claim 31, wherein the second region is annular and has a diameter of roughly 8-10 mm, preferably approximately 8 mm.

### Claim 33 (depends on 18)

The lens according to claim 18, wherein the lens comprises a contact lens or an intraocular lens configured to enhance spatial vision in humans.

### Claim 34

A lens comprising a first approximately central disc-shaped region that is spectrally selective only for light of wavelengths where L and M cones of a human eye have good spectral responsivity, and a second approximately annular region extending outwardly from the first region that is spectrally selective only for light of wavelengths where S cones of a human eye have good spectral responsivity.

### Claim 35

A lens comprising a first approximately central disc-shaped region that is spectrally selective for light of wavelengths where L and M cones of a human eye have good spectral responsivity, and a second approximately annular region extending outwardly from the first region that is spectrally selective for light of wavelengths where S cones of a human eye have good spectral responsivity, wherein:
the first region is configured to have a transmittance that increases from about 0.5 at 490 nm to approaching 1 at higher wavelengths to thereby pass light of wavelengths above about 490 nm, and
the second region is configured to have a transmittance that increases from approximately zero below 370 nm, to about 0.5 at 400 nm, to approaching 1 between about 420 nm and 450 nm, and reduces to about 0.5 at roughly 480 nm to thereby pass light having a wavelength between about 370 to 480 nm.

### Claim 36 (depends on 35)

The lens according to claim 35, wherein the first region is roughly 2-3.5 mm, preferably less than or equal to approximately 3 mm in diameter, and the second region extends from a periphery of the first region towards a peripheral edge of the lens, the second region being annular and having a diameter of roughly 8-10 mm.

### Claim 37 (depends on 36)

The lens according to claim 36, wherein the lens is configured to enhance spatial vision in humans and comprises a contact lens or an intraocular lens.
