## Abstract

A single-serve capsule for making a beverage, having a base element with a cavity that is free of a filter, and in which a raw beverage material is provided, the cavity including radially spaced and vertically oriented convexities, where a width defined between each of the plurality of convexities is wider than a width of each of plurality of convexities, the base element has a wall region extending between the flange and a bottom region of the base element with radially spaced and vertically oriented grooves, a width of the side wall defined between each of the plurality of grooves is wider than a width of each of plurality of grooves, the capsule has an identifier, which makes it possible to individualize the single-serve capsule, the identifier is a barcode on the wall region and on a bottom side of the flange.

## Claims

### Claim 1

1) A single-serve capsule for making a beverage, having a base element with a cavity that is free of a filter, and in which a raw beverage material is provided, the cavity including radially spaced and vertically oriented convexities, wherein a width defined between each of the plurality of convexities is wider than a width of each of plurality of convexities, the capsule having a flange, the cavity being closed by a cover, which is fastened on a top side of the flange, the base element comprises a wall region extending between the flange and a bottom region of the base element, the wall region includes radially spaced and vertically oriented grooves that are free from extending entirely to the bottom region, a width of the side wall defined between each of the plurality of grooves is wider than a width of each of plurality of grooves,
wherein the capsule has an identifier, which makes it possible to individualize the single-serve capsule, the identifier is a barcode on the wall region and on a bottom side of the flange.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

2) The single-serve capsule according to claim 1, wherein the base element is made of a biodegradable material.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

3) The single-serve capsule according to claim 1, wherein the base element is made of a metal.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

4) The single-serve capsule according to claim 1, wherein a material of the cover is the same as a material of the base element.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

5) The single-serve capsule according to claim 1, wherein the single-serve capsule comprises a barrier layer to prevent moisture or aroma from escaping out of the single-serve capsule.

### Claim 6 (depends on 2)

6) The single-serve capsule according to claim 2, wherein the cover comprises a cover peripheral edge that is free from extending to a peripheral edge of the flange.

### Claim 7 (depends on 3)

7) The single-serve capsule according to claim 3, wherein a radial-most region of the top side of the flange is not covered by the cover.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

8) The single-serve capsule according to claim 1, wherein the raw beverage material is coffee powder, chocolate powder, milk powder, or tea.

### Claim 9

9) A single-serve capsule for making a beverage, having a base element made of metal with a cavity that is free of a filter, and in which a raw beverage material is provided, the cavity including radially spaced and vertically oriented convexities, the capsule having a flange, and the cavity being closed by a metal cover, which is fastened on a top side of the flange, the base element comprises a wall region extending between the flange and a bottom region of the base element, the wall region includes radially spaced and vertically oriented grooves that are free from extending entirely to the bottom region,
wherein the capsule has an identifier, which makes it possible to individualize the single-serve capsule, the identifier is a barcode on the wall region and on a bottom side of the flange.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

10) The single-serve capsule according to claim 9, wherein a width defined between each of the plurality of convexities is wider than a width of each of plurality of convexities.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

11) The single-serve capsule according to claim 9, wherein a width of the side wall defined between each of the plurality of grooves is wider than a width of each of plurality of grooves.

### Claim 12 (depends on 10)

12) The single-serve capsule according to claim 10, wherein the cover comprises a cover peripheral edge that is free from extending to a peripheral edge of the flange.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

13) The single-serve capsule according to claim 11, wherein a region of the top side of the flange is not covered by the cover.

### Claim 14 (depends on 10)

14) The single-serve capsule according to claim 10, wherein the wall region has an electrically conductive section.

### Claim 15 (depends on 11)

15) The single-serve capsule according to claim 11, wherein the base element and/or the cover are made of aluminum.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

16) The single-serve capsule according to claim 15, wherein the single-serve capsule comprises a barrier layer to prevent moisture or aroma from escaping out of the single-serve capsule.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)
