## Abstract

A plate disposed between a lamp and a material to be heated is disclosed. The material absorbs a portion of the energy from the lamp and reflects a second portion of the energy. The plate absorbs the reflected energy and transmits the reflected energy back to the material.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An apparatus comprising:
means to apply heat to a layer of build material when present on a build platform, wherein the build material is to absorb a first portion of the heat and reflects a second portion of the heat; and
a plate disposed between the material heating means and the build material, the plate to absorb the second portion of the heat and re-emit the second portion of the heat to the build material.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plate further absorbs heat from the material heating means.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The apparatus of claim 2, further comprising:
a second plate disposed between the material heating means and the plate, wherein the second plate is highly transmissive to wavelengths of energy being emitted by the material heating means.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The apparatus of claim 3, further comprising:
a third plate disposed between the plate and the build material, wherein a gap of air is disposed between the plate and the third plate.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the second and third plates comprise fused quartz.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:
a coating disposed on all surfaces of the plate, wherein the coating supplies broad spectrum energy absorption of the plate.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plate comprises a thermally conductive material for uniform heat distribution.

### Claim 8

A method comprising:
absorbing, by a plate disposed between a lamp and a material when formed/present on a target zone, energy reflected from the material; and
emitting the reflected energy absorbed by the plate to the material.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, further comprising:
heating the material using the lamp, wherein the material absorbs a first portion of the heat and reflects a second portion of the heat.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9, further comprising:
absorbing, by the plate, the second portion of the heat.

### Claim 11 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, further comprising:
absorbing, by the plate, heat trapped between the plate and a glass plate disposed between the lamp and the plate.

### Claim 12

An apparatus comprising:
a plate disposed between a lamp and a layer of material when formed on a build platform, the material to be heated by the lamp, wherein the plate absorbs energy reflected from the material and emits the absorbed energy toward the material.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The apparatus of claim 12, further comprising:
a first fused quartz plate being disposed between the lamp and the plate; and
a second fused quartz plate being disposed between the plate and the material.

### Claim 14 (depends on 12)

The apparatus of claim 12, further comprising:
an optical black paint to be coated upon all surfaces of the plate, wherein the plate heats to approximately 500 Kelvin.

### Claim 15 (depends on 12)

The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the material being heated comprises a PA12 polymer.
