## Abstract

A filter mask for biological material has a mask body and a strap assembly having first and second connectors each having a flared rigid portion for receiving a top strap.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A mask comprising:
(a) a mask body having a front and first and second laterally opposed sides;
(b) a strap assembly securable on a head of a user, the strap assembly comprising a first connector member on the first lateral side, a second connector member on the second lateral side and a top strap, the first connector member has a first rigid flared portion, the second connector member has a second rigid flared portion and the top strap has a first portion and a spaced apart second portion,
wherein, when the mask is worn by a user, the top strap extends over the head of the user,
the first portion is attached to the first rigid flared portion, the second portion is attached to the second rigid flared portion and each of the flared rigid portions extends outwardly from the head of the user.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The mask of claim 1, wherein the flared portion is attached to a portion of the strap assembly and, when the mask is worn by the user and the top strap extends over the head of the user, the flared portion extends upwardly and outwardly at an angle in the range of 70-85° from a plane in which the portion is located.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The mask of claim 2, wherein the angle is about 80°.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The mask of claim 1, wherein the top strap is adjustable.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The mask of claim 4, wherein the adjustable top strap comprises an elastomeric material.

### Claim 6 (depends on 4)

The mask of claim 4, wherein the adjustable top strap has an adjustable length.

### Claim 7 (depends on 4)

The mask of claim 4, wherein each connector member is rotatable about an axis generally parallel to the head of the user such that the connector member rotates when the top strap is adjusted.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The mask of claim 1, wherein the strap assembly further comprises a rear strap which, when the mask is worn by the user, extends around a rear portion of the head of the user the, rear strap has a first side portion on the first lateral side and a second side portion on the second lateral side and the first and second side portions are rigid.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The mask of claim 8, wherein each of the first side portion and the second side portion have a mask body engagement end and a rearwardly disposed opposed end and the connector member is positioned proximate the rearwardly disposed end.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The mask of claim 8, wherein the first side portion and the second side portion are convex.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The mask of claim 1, wherein the first and second connector members are positioned rearward of the external acoustic meatus of the head.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The mask of claim 1, wherein the first and second connector members are rigid.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The mask of claim 12, wherein the first and second connector members are made from a rigid plastic.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The mask of claim 13, wherein the rigid plastic is ABS, HDPE, nylon or polycarbonate.
