Abstract
Embodiments of the present invention describe secured fiber-reinforced aerogels and laminate structures formed therefrom. In one embodiment a laminate comprises at least one fiber-reinforced aerogel layer adjacent to at least one layer of fiber containing material wherein fibers from said at least one fiber-reinforced aerogel layer are interlaced with fibers of said at least one fiber-containing material. In another embodiment a laminate comprises at least two adjacent fiber-reinforced aerogel layers wherein fibers from at least one fiber-reinforced aerogel layer are interlaced with fibers of an adjacent fiber-reinforced aerogel layer.
Claims21
A composite comprising:
- a plurality of preformed fiber-containing aerogel layers, wherein fibers from at least one preformed fiber-containing aerogel layer are interlaced with fibers of at least one other preformed fiber-containing aerogel layer, and
- wherein the aerogel of the plurality of preformed fiber-containing aerogel layers is discontinuous between at least two of the plurality of preformed fiber-containing aerogel layers.
A laminate composite comprising:
- at least one first layer containing fiber material adjacent to at least one second layer containing a fiber material, wherein (i) fiber materials from at least the first layer are interlaced with fiber materials of at least the second layer (ii) at least one layer includes aerogel material and (iii) the aerogel material is discontinuous between the first layer and the second layer.
