Abstract
Described herein are methods for inhibiting generation of one or more non-classical variant(s) of amyloid precursor protein (APP) gene. Provided herein are methods for diagnosing an individual having or suspected of having Alzheimer's-disease following identification of an expression profile or an activity profile of the one or more non-classical variant(s) and treating the individual using a reverse transcriptase inhibitor or salt thereof.
Claims108
A method of inhibiting generation of one or more non-classical variant(s) of an amyloid precursor protein (APP) gene in an individual in need thereof, comprising:
- administering to the individual a reverse transcriptase inhibitor or salt thereof.
A method of treating or preventing Alzheimer's disease in an individual in need thereof, comprising:
- administering to the individual a reverse transcriptase inhibitor or salt thereof.
A method of diagnosing and treating a disease or disorder in an individual characterized by accumulation of amyloid beta protein in an individual in need thereof, comprising:
- (a) identifying the individual as having the disease or disorder characterized by unwanted accumulation of amyloid beta protein by comparing an expression profile or an activity profile of one or more non-classical variant(s) of an APP gene to a reference expression profile of the one or more non-classical variant(s) derived from a cohort of control individuals,
- wherein the expression profile or the activity profile of the one or more non-classical variant(s) is measured by a method comprising long-read sequencing of a biological sample from the individual or binding of one or more probe(s) to the biological sample from the individual;
- and
- wherein the expression profile or the activity profile of the one or more non-classical variant(s) is associated with the neurological disease or disorder;
- and
- (b) administering to the individual having an expression profile or an activity profile of the one or more non-classical variant(s) a reverse transcriptase inhibitor or salt thereof.
Use of a reverse transcriptase inhibitor for treating a subject developing or suspected to develop Alzheimer's disease, for inhibiting generation of one or more non-classical variant(s) of an amyloid precursor protein (APP) gene in an individual in need thereof, or for manufacturing a pharmaceutical composition for treating a subject developing or suspected to develop Alzheimer's disease.
