Surgical instrument steering inputs

A surgical instrument, comprising:

• an end effector;
• an instrument shaft coupled to the end effector;
• and
• an input device supported by a housing coupled to the instrument shaft;
• wherein the input device comprises:
• a drive shaft comprising a first bore,
• a capstan comprising a second bore, and
• a set screw coupling the capstan to the drive shaft;
• wherein the set screw comprises a screw shaft;
• wherein the screw shaft extends through at least a portion of the first bore of the drive shaft and the second bore of the capstan;
• wherein a first thread of the drive shaft is defined within the first bore of the drive shaft and a second thread is defined on the screw shaft of the set screw;
• and
• wherein the first thread of the drive shaft engages the second thread of the set screw.

A surgical instrument, comprising:

• an end effector;
• an instrument shaft coupled to the end effector;
• and
• an input device supported by a housing coupled to the instrument shaft;
• wherein the input device comprises:
• a drive shaft comprising a blind bore,
• a capstan comprising a through-bore,
• a set screw comprising a screw head and a screw shaft extending from the screw head, and
• a pre-tensioner configured to engage the screw head of the set screw;
• wherein the capstan is located axially between the screw head and the drive shaft;
• and
• wherein the screw shaft axially extends through the through-bore of the capstan and partially through the blind bore of the drive shaft.

A surgical instrument, comprising:

• an end effector;
• an instrument shaft coupled to the end effector;
• and
• an input device supported by a housing coupled to the instrument shaft;
• wherein the input device comprises:
• a drive shaft comprising a first bore,
• a capstan comprising a second bore, and
• a set screw clamping the capstan to the drive shaft;
• wherein the set screw comprises a screw shaft, and the screw shaft comprises an upper portion and a lower portion;
• wherein the upper portion of the screw shaft extends through the second bore of the capstan, and the lower portion of the screw shaft extends at least partially through the first bore of the drive shaft;
• wherein a first thread is defined within the first bore of the drive shaft, and a second thread is defined on the lower portion of the set screw;
• and
• wherein the first thread within the first bore of the drive shaft engages the second thread on the lower portion of the set screw.
