Abstract
A tool set for implanting a rod in a human spine in conjunction with bone screws.
Claims20
A guide tool for guiding a spinal rod into a receiver of a bone screw during a surgical procedure, the guide tool comprising:
- an elongate body comprising a through-bore longitudinally extending from a top opening to a bottom opening of the elongate body, two opposing cut-outs in the elongate body extending longitudinally from the bottom opening thereby dividing a bottom portion of the elongate body into a pair of spaced and opposed legs, and a first bone screw attachment structure at the bottom portion of the elongate body, the first bone screw attachment structure extending radially inward and configured to reversibly engage a first tool engagement feature disposed on an outer surface of the bone screw;
- and
- an outer sleeve received over the elongate body, the outer sleeve comprising a second bone screw attachment structure, the second bone screw attachment structure extending radially inward, wherein the second bone screw attachment structure is sized and shaped to translate longitudinally downward relative to the elongate body and toward a second tool engagement structure disposed on the outer surface of the bone screw and reversibly engage the second tool engagement structure after the first bone screw attachment structure engages the first tool engagement structure, thereby locking the guide tool to the bone screw.
A guide tool for guiding a spinal rod into a receiver of a bone screw during a surgical procedure, the guide tool comprising:
- an elongate body comprising a through-bore longitudinally extending from a top opening to a bottom opening of the elongate body, and a first bone screw attachment structure, the first bone screw attachment structure extending radially inward and configured to reversibly engage a first tool engagement feature disposed on an outer surface of the bone screw;
- and
- an outer sleeve received over the elongate body, the outer sleeve comprising a second bone screw attachment structure, the second bone screw attachment structure extending radially inward, wherein the second bone screw attachment structure is sized and shaped to translate longitudinally downward relative to the bone screw and toward a second tool engagement structure disposed on the outer surface of the bone screw and reversibly engage the second tool engagement structure, wherein the second tool engagement structure is located longitudinally higher than the first tool engagement structure.
A guide tool for guiding a spinal rod into a receiver of a bone screw during a surgical procedure, the guide tool comprising:
- an elongate body comprising a through-bore longitudinally extending from a top opening to a bottom opening of the elongate body, and a first bone screw attachment structure, the first bone screw attachment structure extending radially inward and configured to reversibly engage a first tool engagement feature disposed on an outer surface of the bone screw via a rotational movement about a longitudinal axis of the elongate body and relative to at least part of the bone screw;
- and
- an outer sleeve received over the elongate body, the outer sleeve comprising a second bone screw attachment structure, the second bone screw attachment structure extending radially inward and configured to reversibly engage a second tool engagement feature disposed on the outer surface of the bone screw via at least a translational movement relative to the at least part of the bone screw and along a longitudinal axis of the elongate body, thereby locking the guide tool to the bone screw.
