Abstract
Systems and methods are provided for mapping arbitrary isolated quantum-mechanical systems to quantum processor registers on quantum computers that use available symmetry to maximize compactness. For example, embodiments of the present disclosure exploit existing symmetries in the simulated system to minimize the required number of quantum bits (qubits) in the quantum processor.

A mapping device, comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- a controller configured to:
- determine particle composition information and symmetry configuration information of a closed quantum-mechanical system,
- determine a plurality of quantum-mechanical system representations based on the particle composition information and the symmetry configuration information,
- determine a plurality of symmetry configuration basis states for the plurality of quantum-mechanical system representations, and
- determine a mapping between the plurality of symmetry configuration basis states and a plurality of basis states spanning a plurality of computational spaces of a quantum processor.
A mapping device, comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- a controller configured to:
- determine particle composition information and symmetry configuration information of a closed quantum-mechanical system,
- determine a quantum-mechanical system representation based on the particle composition information and the symmetry configuration information,
- determine a symmetry-adapted representation of the quantum-mechanical system representation,
- determine a quantum processor representation of the symmetry-adapted representation, and
- map the quantum processor representation to a plurality of registers of a quantum processor, wherein each register in the plurality of registers is configured to hold a plurality of quantum bits.
A method for determining a mapping of a closed chemical system to a plurality of registers of a quantum processor, the method comprising:
- determining, using a controller device, particle composition information and symmetry configuration information of a closed quantum-mechanical system;
- determining, using the controller device, a quantum-mechanical system representation based on the particle composition information and the symmetry configuration information;
- determining, using the controller device, a symmetry-adapted representation of the quantum-mechanical system representation;
- and
- determining, using the controller device, a quantum processor representation of the symmetry-adapted representation.
