Disclosed is a walking assistance method and apparatuses, wherein a walking assistance apparatus is configured to adaptively control at least one of a length or a stiffness based on a gait motion of a user to assist an upper body of the user.

A walking assistance apparatus comprising:
- a control device configured to adaptively control at least one of a length and a stiffness of the walking assistance apparatus based on a gait motion of a user to assist an upper body of the user.
A walking assistance method comprising:
- acquiring information on a gait motion of a user;
- and
- adaptively controlling at least one of a length or a stiffness of a walking assistance apparatus to assist an upper body of the user based on the gait motion.
