A method of improving heat stress tolerance in plants comprising applying an effective amount of 1-amino-1-cyclopropanecarboxylic acid (ACC) to the plant, wherein the plant is selected from the group consisting of wheat, corn, soybean, cotton, tomato, Brassica napus, bean, lettuce, turf grass and an ornamental plant.
