A compacting machine of the type having a compaction rotor, the improvement being a rotating auger positioned before the compaction rotor, to spread material to be compacted along an entire front of the compaction rotor.

A compacting machine of the type having a compaction rotor, the improvement comprising:
- a rotating auger positioned before the compaction rotor, to spread material to be compacted along an entire front of the compaction rotor.
A forage bagger machine comprising:
- a hopper containing a compaction rotor and a feeding mechanism to feed forage to the hopper, the compaction rotor feeding forage into a bag;
- a rotating auger positioned a first predetermined distance above a floor of the hopper and a second predetermined distance in front of the compaction rotor, to spread material placed into the hopper along an entire front of the compaction rotor so the material is more evenly compacted into the bag.
