Abstract
A mat material used in a sandwiched state between two members. The mat material includes a mat-like body portion having a first surface and a second surface, and an area containing an inorganic adhesive, with the area being formed on at least one of the first or second surface of the body portion, and the inorganic adhesive exhibits adhesiveness upon being heated.
Claims25
A mat material configured to be used in a sandwiched state between two members that exhibit an operating temperature, where before being so used, the mat material comprising:
- a mat-like body portion comprising inorganic fibers and having a first surface and a second surface;
- and
- a surface layer of inorganic adhesive adhered to an area formed on at least one of the first surface and the second surface of the body portion, with the surface layer of inorganic adhesive defining an exposed surface of said mat material and being in a dry state;
- wherein the inorganic adhesive in its dry state exhibits adhesiveness upon being heated to the operating temperature.
(canceled)
A method of producing a mat material comprising:
- providing a mat-like body portion having a first surface and a second surface;
- coating a solution containing an inorganic adhesive to form a surface layer onto at least a part of at least one of the first surface or second surface of the body portion;
- and
- obtaining a dry mat material by a drying process, after the surface layer of the inorganic adhesive is formed on the body portion.
