## Abstract

Method to generate frames on demand starts with a system receiving a request for a media content item from a client device. The request includes a media content identification and a main user identification. The system transmits to the client device a playlist including a first set of media content item segments. While the first set of media content item segments is being displayed on the client device, the system renders a second set of media content item segments using the media content identification and the main user identification. Rendering the second set of media content item segments can include rendering a main user avatar based on the main user identification and incorporating the main user avatar into the second set of media content item segments. The system then updates the playlist to include the second set of media content item segments. Other embodiments are disclosed herein.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method comprising:
receiving a request for a media content item from a client device, the request comprising a media content identification and a main user identification, the media content item being a video that comprises a first set of media content item segments and a second set of media content item segments;
transmitting to the client device a playlist including the first set of media content item segments; and
while the first set of media content item segments are being displayed on the client device,
rendering the second set of media content item segments using the media content identification and the main user identification, wherein rendering the second set of media content item segments comprises
rendering a main user avatar based on the main user identification, and
incorporating the main user avatar into the second set of media content item segments, and
updating the playlist to include the second set of media content item segments.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising:
while the first set of media content item segments are being displayed on the client device,
uploading the second set of media content item segments to a storage; and
setting a segment state to indicate that the storage includes the second set of media content item segments for consumption by the client device.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, further comprising:
retrieving the segment states, wherein updating the playlist is based on the segment states.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, further comprising:
while the first set of media content item segments are being displayed on the client device,
transmitting the updated playlist to the client device.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the main user identification is associated with a user of the client device.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the video is associated with the media content identification.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the first set of media content item segments are an introduction video portion of the media content item.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising:
causing the first set of media content item segments to be displayed on the client device.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein rendering the second set of media content item segments further comprises:
rendering the second set of media content item segments using a secondary user identification, wherein the secondary user identification is associated with a user associated with a different client device.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9, wherein rendering the second set of media content item segments using the secondary user identification comprises:
rendering a secondary user avatar based on the secondary user identification; and
incorporating the secondary user avatar into the second set of media content item segments.

### Claim 11

A system comprising:
a processor; and
a memory component having instructions stored thereon, when executed by the processor, causes the processor to perform operations comprising:
receiving a request for a media content item from a client device, the request comprising a media content identification and a main user identification, the media content item being a video that comprises a first set of media content item segments and a second set of media content item segments;
transmitting to the client device a playlist including the first set of media content item segments; and
while the first set of media content item segments are being displayed on the client device,
rendering the second set of media content item segments using the media content identification and the main user identification, wherein rendering the second set of media content item segments comprises
rendering a main user avatar based on the main user identification, and
incorporating the main user avatar into the second set of media content item segments, and
updating the playlist to include the second set of media content item segments.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The system of claim 11, wherein the operations further comprising:
while the first set of media content item segments are being displayed on the client device,
uploading the second set of media content item segments to a storage; and
setting a segment state to indicate that the storage includes the second set of media content item segments for consumption by the client device.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The system of claim 12, wherein the operations further comprising:
retrieving the segment states, wherein updating the playlist is based on the segment states.

### Claim 14 (depends on 12)

The system of claim 12, wherein the operations further comprising:
while the first set of media content item segments are being displayed on the client device,
transmitting the updated playlist to the client device.

### Claim 15 (depends on 11)

The system of claim 11, wherein the main user identification is associated with a user of the client device.

### Claim 16 (depends on 11)

The system of claim 11, wherein the video is associated with the media content identification.

### Claim 17 (depends on 11)

The system of claim 11, wherein the first set of media content item segments are an introduction video portion of the media content item.

### Claim 18 (depends on 11)

The system of claim 11, wherein the operations further comprising:
causing the first set of media content item segments to be displayed on the client device.

### Claim 19 (depends on 11)
