A configuration data model system for managing configuration data edits to multiple data tables is disclosed. The configuration data model system uses a time series representation of the configuration data and only replicates the time series. In this manner, the configuration schema can be considered as a ‘parallel’ representation of the data, and the time series as the ‘serial’ representation of the same data—the set of time-ordered operations which, when applied to an empty configuration, result in a populated one. In an intelligent gateway, the configuration can therefore be serialized to a single table. This single table is replicated to the cloud server(s), where it is deserialized back to the configuration schema. The configuration data model system does not impose a change on the API code. Instead, it only changes the method of transferring configuration changes between the intelligent gateway(s) and cloud server(s).
