Abstract
An atmospheric water generation system comprises water vapor consolidation systems configured to increase the relative humidity of a controlled air stream prior to condensing water from the controlled air stream. The water vapor consolidation system comprises a fluid-desiccant flow system configured to decrease the temperature of the desiccant to encourage water vapor to be absorbed by the desiccant from an atmospheric air flow. The desiccant flow is then heated to encourage water vapor evaporation from the desiccant flow into a controlled air stream that circulates within the system. The humidity of the controlled air stream is thereby increased above the relative humidity of the atmospheric air to facilitate condensation of the water vapor into usable liquid water.
Claims18
A method for extracting water from atmospheric air, the method comprising:
- intersecting an atmospheric air stream with a fluid desiccant flowing along a closed desiccant circulation loop to extract water vapor from the atmospheric air stream and to absorb the extracted water vapor into the fluid desiccant;
- directing the fluid desiccant comprising the absorbed water vapor along the closed desiccant circulation loop to intersect the fluid desiccant with a closed air circulation loop separated from the atmospheric air stream to evaporate water vapor from the fluid desiccant into the closed air circulation loop;
- and
- condensing water vapor from the air circulation loop into liquid water.
A method for extracting water from atmospheric air, the method comprising:
- intersecting an atmospheric air stream with a fluid desiccant flowing along a closed desiccant circulation loop to extract water vapor from the atmospheric air stream and to absorb the extracted water vapor into the fluid desiccant;
- and
- passing the fluid desiccant comprising the absorbed water vapor across a first side of a membrane desorption system comprising a porous membrane to desorb water from the fluid desiccant into a liquid water circulation loop located on a second side of the membrane desorption system.
