Meal insulin determination for improved post prandial response

A non-transitory computer readable medium embodied with programming code executable by a processor, and the processor when executing the programming code is operable to perform functions, including functions to:

• receive a meal indication related to ingestion of a meal;
• note a time of receipt of the indication of the meal;
• receive an estimated amount of carbohydrates in the meal;
• maintain a log of information related to each respective received meal indication;
• determine a meal bolus to be delivered based on the received meal indication, wherein the determined meal bolus is calculated or received via a user interface;
• output an instruction to deliver the determined meal bolus;
• and
• after receipt of a predetermined number of meal indications, generate an average meal insulin response.

A device, comprising:

• a processor;
• a memory storing programming code, an artificial pancreas application, and operable to store data related to the artificial pancreas application, wherein the programming code and the artificial pancreas application are executable by the processor;
• and
• a transceiver operable to receive a signal containing information usable by the artificial pancreas application and transmit a signal containing information usable by or generated by the artificial pancreas application,
• wherein the processor when executing the artificial pancreas application is operable to control delivery of insulin, and to perform functions, including functions to:
• receive a meal indication related to ingestion of a meal;
• note a time of receipt of the indication of the meal;
• receive an estimated amount of carbohydrates in the meal;
• maintain a log of information related to each respective received meal indication;
• determine a meal bolus to be delivered based on the received meal indication, wherein the determined meal bolus may be calculated or received via a user interface;
• output an instruction to deliver the determined meal bolus;
• and
• after receipt of a predetermined number of meal indications, generate an average meal insulin response.
