Abstract
Methods, systems and devices for pre-operatively planned shoulder surgery guides and implants. Pre-operative planning methods for designing a shoulder surgery guide based on considerations of multiple factors affecting the outcome of shoulder surgery. Methods of using surgery guides and implants in patients undergoing shoulder surgery.

A pre-operative planning method for designing a shoulder surgery guide, the method comprising:
- conducting, with a computing system, a range of motion analysis, the range of motion analysis including virtually positioning implants through ranges of motion to measure impact locations and to compensate for necessary functional range of motion;
- generating, with the computing system, information indicative of at least one of a selection of glenoid implant, humeral implant, or information for creation of the shoulder surgery guide device based on the range of motion analysis;
- and
- outputting, with the computing system, the generated information.
A pre-operative planning method for designing a shoulder surgery guide, the method comprising:
- determining, with a computing system, key soft tissue insertion points;
- analyzing, with the computing system, an impact from use of a plurality of implants due to insertion into one or more of the key soft tissue insertion points, wherein analyzing the impact comprises determining whether total soft tissue length change or contraction, over one or more ranges of motion, is substantially maintained within anatomical ranges for achieving a set of activities;
- generating, with a computing system, information indicative of at least one of a selection of glenoid implant, humeral implant, or information for creation of the shoulder surgery guide device based on the analysis;
- and
- outputting, with the computing system, the generated information.
A pre-operative planning method for designing a shoulder surgery guide, the method comprising:
- identifying procedural risks, wherein identifying procedural risks comprises determining:
- whether a glenoid face coverage is maximized;
- whether an overhang of the glenoid face is minimized;
- whether bone removal on the glenoid face is minimized;
- whether glenoid retroversion is less than about 5 to about 10 degrees;
- whether seating of a glenoid implant is greater than about 80% of implant coverage;
- whether there is minimized penetration of a glenoid cortical wall anteriorily;
- whether there is greater than about 3 mm bone thickness behind a glenoid;
- whether an orientation offset between a native glenoid and an implant superior/inferior axis is less than about 5 degrees;
- whether the superior or inferior tilt versus the native glenoid is less than 5 degrees;
- whether there is an absence of a humeral head overhang compared to the cut, or a prepared surface of the humeral bone;
- whether there is less than about a 3 mm difference in humeral head diameter between anatomic and implant;
- whether there is less than about a 1 mm difference in humeral head height between anatomic and implant;
- and
- whether there is less than about a 2 mm distance between a greater tuberosity to a medial head edge in comparison to anatomic;
- generating information indicative of a shoulder surgery guide device based on the identified procedural risks;
- and
- outputting the generated information.
