Abstract
A femoral nail includes a proximal section, a distal section remote from the proximal section, and an intermediate section disposed between the proximal section and distal section and having first and second curved portions. The first curved portion is positioned closer to the proximal section than the second curved portion. The second curved portion is curved in a first plane, and the first curved portion is curved in the first plane and a second and third plane.
Claims20
A femoral nail comprising:
- a proximal portion configured to engage a driving tool for driving the femoral nail into a femur;
- a distal portion remote from the proximal portion;
- and
- an intermediate portion disposed between the proximal portion and distal portion, the intermediate portion having a first bent section and a straight section, the first bent section being disposed between the straight section and the proximal portion, the first bent section being bent in three separate, intersecting planes such that a first bend of the first bent section is in a first plane, a second bend is in a second plane, and a third bend is in a third plane, the first and second planes intersecting at an oblique angle relative to each other, the bends in each of these planes defining a non-zero radius of curvature of the first bent section lying in the third plane, wherein a longitudinal axis of the straight portion defines the intersection between the first plane, the second plane and the third plane.

A femoral nail comprising:
- a proximal portion configured to engage a driving tool for driving the femoral nail into a femur;
- a distal portion remote from the proximal portion;
- and
- an intermediate portion disposed between the proximal portion and the distal portion, the intermediate portion having a bent section having a three-dimensional curvature defined by a first curvature component in a first plane, a second curvature component in a second plane, and a third curvature component in a third plane, the first and second planes intersecting at an oblique angle relative to each other, the third curvature component being a resultant of the first and second curvature components and having an angular magnitude greater than the first and second curvature components, wherein the third curvature component is defined by a constant radius in the third plane and along a length of the bent section.
