Abstract
Systems, devices, and methods for system for monitoring uterine contractions non-invasively using surface electrode measurements are described herein.
Claims11
A system for monitoring uterine contractions in a subject, the system comprising:
- a. at least one electrode patch, each electrode patch comprising an adhesive flexible membrane and a plurality of electrodes affixed to the flexible membrane, the plurality of electrodes extending through the flexible membrane in an array pattern, wherein the at least one electrode patch is configured to adhere to a body surface overlying a uterus of the subject;
- b. a computing device operatively coupled to the plurality of electrodes, the computing device comprising at least one processor and a non-volatile computer-readable media, the non-volatile computer-readable media containing instructions executable on the at least one processor to:
- i. receive a body-uterus geometry of the subject, the body-uterus geometry comprising the 3D positions of a uterus surface and the body surface of the subject, and each 3D position of each electrode on the body surface of the subject;
- ii. receive a plurality of EMG signals from the plurality of electrodes;
- and
- iii. transform the plurality of EMG signals into at least one uterine potential map based on the body-uterus geometry of the subject.

A computer-implemented method for imaging uterine contractions in a subject, the method comprising:
- a. receiving, at a computing device, a body surface potential mapΦB comprising electrical potential values measured at a plurality of surface electrode locations, and a body-uterus geometry G corresponding to the subject;
- b. transforming, using the computing device, the body-uterus geometry G into U, Σ, and X using a single value composition method, wherein U is a matrix of singular vectors spanning the body surface, Σ is a diagonal matrix of singular values (σ1, σi, . . . σZ), X is a matrix of singular vectors spanning the uterine surface, M is the number of body surface sites, N is the number of uterine sites and Z=min(M,N);
- c. transforming, using the computing device, the body surface potential map ΦB and the body-uterus geometry G into a plurality of spatial dependent (SP) regularization factors λSP=[λ1, λ1, . . . λk, λN] using the function ƒ (G, ΦB), wherein λk is the regularization factor corresponding to the kth uterine surface position of N total positions;
