Abstract
Aspects of the invention relate to cell culture vessels and method for using the vessels to agitate and maintain cells in suspension. In some embodiments, the vessel has a body configured to hold a volume of liquid containing cells to be cultured, the vessel body having a deformable portion arranged to induce movement of the liquid sufficient to maintain the cells in suspension. In some embodiments, the deformable portion is in at least one of a base and sidewall of the vessel body. In some embodiments, the deformable portion is deformed according to a deformable pattern. In some embodiments, the deformable portion is deformed via a deformation plate having one or more moveable members that contact the deformable portion.
Claims34
A vessel for culturing cells, the vessel comprising:
- a vessel body arranged to hold a volume of liquid containing cells to be cultured, the vessel body having a deformable portion arranged to produce movement of the volume of liquid sufficient to maintain the cells in suspension.
A vessel for culturing cells, the vessel comprising:
- a vessel body configured to hold a volume of liquid containing cells to be cultured, the vessel body having a base and a sidewall, at least a portion of the base being deformable;
- wherein, in response to a pattern of deformation in the base, the cells are maintained in suspension while minimizing a shear stress applied to the cells.
A system for culturing cells, the system comprising:
- a vessel having a body configured to hold a volume of liquid containing cells to be cultured, the vessel body having a deformable portion;
- and
- one or more moveable members arranged to deform the deformable portion to produce a movement of the volume of liquid sufficient to maintain the cells in suspension.
A method of culturing cells, the method comprising:
- placing a volume of liquid containing cells to be cultured in a vessel having a deformable portion;
- and
- deforming the deformable portion to produce a movement of the volume of liquid sufficient to maintain the cells in suspension.
