Abstract

Method, apparatus, systems, and non-transitory media are described to simplify a user's interaction with an insurance quoting application. Some data ordinarily requested by the user may be found from one of several private, public, and/or proprietary sources, so some prompts that would ordinarily need to be answered by the user may be eliminated. The described aspects also include retrieving data associated with one or more prompts, making assumptions about the user from the data, and using this data to prepopulate prompts. A control option indicative of a user's desired level of interaction with the application may affect the number of assumptions made and the number of omitted and/or prepopulated prompts presented to the user. By supplementing the user's prompt answers with database data, the number of prompts that need to be answered by the user may be reduced, thereby saving time for the user.

Dependent claims

A computer-implemented method of displaying one or more windows of prompts on a graphical user interface to receive answers from a user, the method comprising:

determining, by one or more processors, data needed as answers from the user for an application to calculate an insurance product quote requested by the user, wherein the data comprises a first portion to be received via a first subset of a plurality of windows of prompts from the user and a second portion to be received via a second subset of the plurality of windows of prompts from the user;
prior to receiving the answers from the user, receiving, by the one or more processors, a selection of a control option indicative of the user's request to minimize a number of the plurality of windows of prompts to be displayed by the application;
in response to receiving the selection of the control option:
causing, by the one or more processors, the application to omit displaying of the first subset of windows of prompts and receive the first portion of the data from one or more external databases that stores personal information already known about the user, instead of via a response from the user to the first subset of windows of prompts, using tags and/or labels associated with the first portion of the data, wherein the tags and/or labels identify at least one of the one or more external databases;
generating, by the one or more processors, a second subset of windows of prompts for display via the graphical user interface to receive the second portion of the data that is unavailable at the one or more external databases;
receiving, by the one or more processors, the second portion of data based upon the answers provided by the user to the generated second subset of windows of prompts;
populating, by the one or more processors, the generated second subset of windows of prompts via the graphical user interface with the answers corresponding to the second portion of the data from the user;
calculating, by the one or more processors, the insurance product quote based upon the first and second portions of data;
and
generating, by the one or more processors, a display of the insurance product quote.

A non-transitory, tangible computer-readable medium storing machine readable instructions to display one or more windows of prompts on a graphical user interface to receive answers from a user that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to:

determine data needed as answers from the user for an application to calculate an insurance product quote requested by the user, wherein the data comprises a first portion to be received via a first subset of a plurality of windows of prompts from the user and a second portion to be received via a second subset of the plurality of windows of prompts from the user;
prior to receiving the answers from the user, receive a selection of a control option indicative of the user's request to minimize a number of the plurality of windows of prompts to be displayed by the application;
in response to receiving the selection of the control option:
cause the application to omit displaying of the first subset of windows of prompts and receive the first portion of the data from one or more external databases that stores personal information already known about the user, instead of via a response from the user to the first subset of windows of prompts, using tags and/or labels associated with the first portion of the data, wherein the tags and/or labels identify at least one of the one or more external databases;
generate a second subset of windows of prompts for display via the graphical user interface to receive the second portion of the data that is unavailable at the one or more external databases;
receive the second portion of data based upon the answers provided by the user to the generated second subset of windows of prompts;
populate the generated second subset of windows of prompts via the graphical user interface with the answers corresponding to the second portion of the data from the user;
calculate the insurance product quote based upon the first and second portions of data;
and
generate a display of the insurance product quote.
