Rule testing framework for executable rules of a service provider system

A method comprising:

• determining, by a service provider, a testing requirement for a rule of the service provider, wherein the rule comprises a constraint statement for the service provider that provides a service output determination to a user;
• determining a plurality of attributes for the rule based on the testing requirement;
• selecting an attribute of the plurality of attributes to be an output of the rule;
• determining values for other ones of the plurality of attributes for the attribute to be the output of the rule, wherein the determining the values reduces required variable testing of the plurality of attributes for the testing requirement based on the selecting the attribute to be the output;
• and
• providing a result of the testing requirement of the rule based on the values for the other ones of the plurality of attributes.

A non-transitory machine-readable medium having stored thereon machine-readable instructions executable to cause a machine to perform operations comprising:

• receiving a rule expression for a rule of a service provider, wherein the rule expression comprises variable rule parameters for a rule of the service provider that determines an outcome of a decision associated with the rule;
• executing a test of the rule expression for the service provider, wherein the executing comprises:
• selecting one of the variable rule parameters to set as an output to the rule expression,
• setting values for other ones of the variable rule parameters to cause the selected one of the variable rule parameters to be the output of the rule expression, and
• determining a test result for the rule expression based on the setting the values, wherein the test result comprises a determination of whether the rule expression comprises an expected result for the selected one of the variable rule parameters based on the values;
• and
• outputting the test result for the test of the rule expression based on the values so that different values of each of the other ones of the variable rule parameters are not tested for the selected one of the variable rule parameters.
