Method for enhancing products with cloud analytics

A non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium encoded with instructions executable by a processor to collect telemetry data about an object in a virtualized infrastructure based on a manifest for the telemetry data, the instructions comprising:

• receiving a request for the telemetry service and storing the request in a first queue, the request includes collected telemetry data from the virtualized infrastructure;
• retrieving the request from the first queue;
• determining if the customer has agreed to share the telemetry data from the virtualized infrastructure;
• retrieving a manifest for the telemetry data from a cloud analytics site remote from the customer's premise, the manifest defining a telemetry level defining an amount of the telemetry data to be collected;
• and
• when the customer has agreed to share the telemetry data from the virtualized infrastructure and the telemetry level is not off, uploading the collected telemetry data to the cloud analytics site.

A system, comprising:

• computers configured to implement a virtualized infrastructure at a customer's premise;
• at computer configured to implement:
• a telemetry service endpoint configured to receive from the customer a request for telemetry service from the virtualized infrastructure and storing the request in a first queue, the request includes collected telemetry data from the virtualized infrastructure;
• a telemetry level checker configured to retrieve the request from the first queue, retrieve a manifest from a cloud analytics site remote from the customer's premise, determine from the manifest a telemetry level defining an amount of the telemetry data to be collected, determine if the customer has agreed to share the telemetry data from the virtualized infrastructure and the telemetry level is not off, and cause a telemetry processor to save the collected telemetry data in log files and store the log files in a second queue when the customer has agreed to share the telemetry data from the virtualized infrastructure;
• the telemetry processor configured to save the collected telemetry data in the log files and store them in the second queue;
• and
• an analytics cloud proxy configured to upload the log files to the cloud analytics site.
