A method of scavenging an acidic sulfide species from an industrial or environmental material, the method comprising contacting the material with:
- (a) an amino compound selected from triazines, oxazolidines, polyamines and amines of formula R1R2R3N in which each of R1, R2 and R3 is independently hydrogen or an alkyl group which is optionally substituted with a group selected from hydroxy, alkoxy, amino, alkylamino, dialkylamino or aryl, provided that at least one of R1, R2 and R3 is not hydrogen;
- and
- (b) a compound including a soft electrophilic centre.
A product for scavenging acid sulfide species, the product comprising:
- (a) an amino compound selected from triazines, oxazolidines, polyamines and amines of formula R1R2R3N in which each of R1, R2 and R3 is independently hydrogen or an alkyl group which is optionally substituted with a group selected from hydroxy, alkoxy, amino, alkylamino, dialkylamino or aryl, provided that at least one of R1, R2 and R3 is not hydrogen;
- and
- (b) a composition comprising a compound including a soft electrophilic centre.
