Abstract
The present invention relates to methods, systems, and devices that emit light energy in the ruminant rumenoreticulum, to inactivate a quantity of bacteria equivalent to the quantity inactivated by sub-therapeutic doses of antibiotics. The device is a size or shape that will obtain a predetermined position within the rumenoreticulum, and protectively contains long lasting battery power, electric components, and light sources that emit wavelengths that inactivate and destroy bacteria. The device, the system and the method according to the present invention also allow detection of biological parameters of the capsule environment and communication with a receiver outside the animal.
Claims18
A light capsule that is retained in a ruminant rumenoreticulum, comprising an elongate luminaire formed of:
- a hollow, cylindrical case made of a corrosion resistant material;
- and
- at least one electrical source;
- and
- at least one light source emitting radiation having a peak wavelength between 400 and 500 nanometers;
- and
- a power controller system;
- the light capsule being configured for permanent retention in the rumenoreticulum.
A method to inactivate a quantity of live bacteria within at least one stomach of a ruminant animal comprising:
- a) introducing into the at least one stomach a device configured to emit light with a peak wavelength between 400 and 500 nanometers, the device having a shape and weight to settle in a particular area of the at least one stomach of the animal;
- and b) activating the device continuously or at discrete times to inactivate the quantity of live bacteria.
A light capsule that is retained in a ruminant rumenoreticulum, comprising a shape-shifting luminaire comprising:
- two or more enclosures, each one of the two or more enclosures containing at least one light source emitting radiation having a peak wavelength between 400 and 500 nanometers;
- a motion module attached to the two or more enclosures, wherein the motion module has an independent movement ability;
- the motion module comprising at least one linear member and a movable axle that rotates the at least one linear member to push apart or pull together the two or more enclosures;
- at least one of the two or more enclosures or the motion module containing at least one power source and at least one controller;
- the motion module power controller acting in accordance with predetermined instructions, thereby changing the external dimensions of the shape-shifting luminaire, repositioning it in the ruminant's stomachs.
