Abstract
Arthroplasty components include an articular surface and a bone-facing surface. The bone-facing surface includes a concave arrangement of planar surfaces which converge as they approach a middle portion of the articular surface. Instruments and implantation methods are also disclosed.
Claims15
An arthroplasty implant to replace at least a portion of an articular head of a bone for joint arthroplasty, comprising:
- a convex articular surface;
- and
- a bone-facing side opposite the articular surface, wherein the bone-facing side comprises a socket comprising first and second side walls on opposite sides of the socket, wherein the first and second side walls intersect each other to form an edge that extends between first and second ends;
- wherein the first and second side walls intersect the articular surface to establish an articular margin of the implant;
- wherein the socket comprises a maximum depth measured from the articular margin, wherein the edge lies along the maximum depth of the socket.
An arthroplasty implant to replace at least a portion of an articular head of a bone for joint arthroplasty, comprising:
- a convex articular surface;
- and
- a concave bone-facing side opposite the articular surface, wherein the bone-facing side comprises a concave arrangement of first, second, and third planar side walls;
- wherein a total surface area of the first side wall is less than a total surface area of the second side wall;
- wherein the total surface area of the second side wall is less than a total surface area of the third side wall.
An arthroplasty implant to replace at least a portion of an articular head of a bone for joint arthroplasty, comprising:
- a convex articular surface that is spherical, ellipsoidal, or ovoid;
- and
- a bone-facing side opposite the articular surface, wherein the bone-facing side comprises a socket comprising first and second side walls on opposite sides of the socket, wherein the first side wall is a different size than the second side wall.
