An aircraft-based power system comprising:
- at least one smart universal serial bus (USB-PD (Power Delivery)) outlet;
- the at least one smart universal serial bus (USB-PD (Power Delivery)) outlet being configured to connect to a power bus that receives power from a power source system,
- the power source system configured to generate an output characteristic indicating a total system power loading;
- and
- the at least one smart universal serial bus (USB-PD (Power Delivery)) outlet is further configured to sense the output characteristic, calculate a present capacity available from the power bus, and control power delivery.
