Personal Care Compositions and Methods for Improving Curl Retention in Hair

A hair care composition for improving curl retention of hair, comprising:

• a carrier;
• and
• a quaternary ammonium compound configured to improve curl retention of hair, wherein the quaternary ammonium compound is represented by chemic formula (I):
• wherein:
• R1 is independently selected from:
• a C10-C22 alkyl group, a C10-C22 ester group, an R5—C(═O)NH(CH2)m group, where R5 is a C10-C22 alkyl and m is an integer from 1 to 3, and mixtures thereof,
• R2 and R4 are each independently selected from:
• H, C1-C5 alkyl and polyoxyalkylene groups having polyalkylene repeating units containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms;
• R3 is independently selected from R1, R2, and R4;
• and
• X− is a counterion.
