Abstract
A system for preventing inadvertent actuation of a medical device. The system includes an elongate tube having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending from the proximal end to the distal end. The lumen is configured to receive a medical device configured to transition between an actuated state and an inactive state. The device further includes a detection system configured to determine a position of a distal end of the medical device relative to the distal end of the elongate tube. The detection system includes a transmitting element and a receiving element.

A system for preventing inadvertent actuation of a medical device, the system comprising:
- a medical device configured to transition between an actuated state and an inactive state;
- a shaft having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending from the proximal end to the distal end, the lumen configured to receive the medical device therein;
- and
- a detection system configured to determine a position of a distal end of the medical device relative to the distal end of the shaft, wherein the detection system includes a transmitting element positioned at the distal end of the shaft and a receiver positioned at the distal end of the shaft.
A system for preventing inadvertent actuation of a medical device, the system comprising:
- a medical device comprising a laser;
- a shaft having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending from the proximal end to the distal end, the lumen being configured to receive the medical device therein;
- and
- a detection system configured to determine a position of a distal end of the medical device relative to the distal end of the shaft, wherein the detection system includes an energy source at the distal end of the shaft and an energy receiver at the distal end of the shaft.
A system for preventing inadvertent actuation of a medical device, the system comprising:
- a medical device comprising a laser;
- a shaft having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending from the proximal end to the distal end, the lumen being configured to receive the medical device therein;
- and
- a detection system configured to determine a position of a distal end of the medical device relative to the distal end of the shaft, wherein the detection system includes a transmitter at the distal end of the shaft and a receiver at the distal end of the shaft, wherein the transmitter and the receiver are positioned on sides of the shaft opposite each other about a central axis of the shaft,
- wherein the medical device is configured to move from a first position to a second position, wherein the medical device is configured to be proximal to the detection system in the first position, and wherein at least a portion of the medical device is configured to be positioned distally of a proximalmost end of the detection system in the second position.
