The present disclosure is directed to films. The films can include polyamic acid (PAA). Methods of making and using the film for food product coverings is also included.

A film comprising:
- polyamic acid (PAA);
- glutaraldehyde (GA);
- and
- one or more molecule selected from the group consisting of alanine (A), tryptophan (W), 2-benzoylbenzoyl (BB), Polycaprolactone (PCl), L-Cysteine (C), D-glucosamine (DA), dipropylene glycol (DP), p-aminobenzoic acid (pAB), L-isoleucine (I), p-aminosalicylic acid (pAS), sulfanilic acid (SA), and 5-aminosalicylic acid (5AS).

- polyamic acid (PAA);
- a cross-linker;
- and
- a small molecule, wherein the small molecule is a molecule having a molecular weight of less than about 900 Daltons.
