Abstract
The present invention disclosed an efficient, continuous flow process for the synthesis metal nanowires by using a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTRs) in series for varying the aspect ratio of metal nanowires and nanorods formed by feeding affixed quantities of metal salt and polymeric surfactant with a reducing solvent like glycol to an axially mixed reactor.
Claims11
A continuous flow process for the synthesis of metal nanowires using continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTRs) comprising:
- a. dissolving metal salt in ethylene glycol to obtain solution A and dissolving alkali halide in ethylene glycol to obtain solution B in different reagent preparation tanks;
- b. introducing solution A and B to the first continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) in series and stirring at 200-1000 rpm at temperature in the range of 110-180° C. to obtain metal nuclei;
- c. feeding the outflow from the first CSTR of step (b) to the next CSTR in series;
- d. optionally adding a capping agent to the CSTRs-in-series either entirely in the first CSTR or distribute it across various CSTRs in series in equal or different proportions and stirring the reaction mixture at 200-1000 rpm at temperature in the range of 110-180° C. for period ranging from 10 minutes to 12 hours in each CSTR and
- e. adding antisolvent to the last CSTR in the series to obtain the metal nanowires continuously.
