## Abstract

An image coding method includes: generating a first flag indicating whether or not a motion vector predictor is to be selected from among one or more motion vector predictor candidates; generating a second flag indicating whether or not a motion vector predictor is to be selected from among the one or more motion vector predictor candidates in coding a current block to be coded in a predetermined coding mode, when the first flag indicates that a motion vector predictor is to be selected; and generating a coded signal in which the first flag and the second flag are included in header information, when the first flag indicates that a motion vector predictor is to be selected.

## Claims

### Claim at position 1

1-2. (canceled)

### Claim 3

An image coding method comprising:
generating first information indicating whether or not a motion vector predictor can be selected from among one or more motion vector predictor candidates;
generating second information indicating whether or not a motion vector predictor is selected, in skip mode, from among the one or more motion vector predictor candidates for coding a current block to be coded, when the first information indicates that a motion vector predictor can be selected;
generating a coded signal in which the first information and the second information are included, when the first information indicates that a motion vector predictor can be selected;
including, in the coded signal, index information indicating a motion vector predictor to be selected from among the one or more motion vector predictor candidates, when both (a) the first information indicates that a motion vector predictor can be selected and (b) the second information indicates that a motion vector predictor is selected, in the skip mode, for the coding of the current block; and
coding the current block using the motion vector predictor selected based on the index information.

### Claim 4

An image coding apparatus that performs prediction coding of moving pictures, the image coding apparatus comprising:
a first information generating unit configured to generate first information indicating whether or not a motion vector predictor can be selected from among one or more motion vector predictor candidates;
a second information generating unit configured to generate second information indicating whether or not a motion vector predictor is selected, in skip mode, from among the one or more motion vector predictor candidates for coding a current block to be coded, when the first information indicates that a motion vector predictor can be selected; and
a variable-length coding unit configured to generate a coded signal in which the first information and the second information are included, when the first information indicates that a motion vector predictor can be selected,
wherein the variable-length coding unit includes, in the coded signal, index information indicating a motion vector predictor to be selected from among the one or more motion vector predictor candidates, when both (a) the first information indicates that a motion vector predictor can be selected and (b) the second information indicates that a motion vector predictor is selected, in the skip mode, for the coding of the current block, and
the variable-length coding unit codes the current block using the motion vector predictor selected based on the index information.
