## Abstract

In some embodiments, a method receives a plurality of swatch configurations that each define combinations for lightness values, saturation values, and hue values and receives information associated with a characteristic of an image. A swatch configuration is selected based on the information where the swatch configuration defines a plurality of combinations for lightness values, saturation values, and hue values. The method generates a plurality of colors using the plurality of combinations for lightness values, saturation values, and hue values by varying at least one of the saturation value, the lightness value, and the hue value for the plurality of colors. The plurality of colors are applied to an interface that is displaying the image.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method comprising:
receiving, by a computing device, a plurality of swatch configurations that each define combinations for lightness values, saturation values, and hue values;
receiving, by the computing device, information associated with a characteristic of an image;
selecting, by the computing device, a swatch configuration based on the information, wherein the swatch configuration defines a plurality of combinations for lightness values, saturation values, and hue values;
generating, by the computing device, a plurality of colors using the plurality of combinations for lightness values, saturation values, and hue values by varying at least one of the saturation value, the lightness value, and the hue value for the plurality of colors; and
applying, by the computing device, the plurality of colors to an interface that is displaying the image.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising:
receiving a navigation to an entity displayed on the interface; and
displaying the image and the plurality of colors to the interface in response to receiving the navigation.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein generating the plurality of colors comprises:
varying the lightness value or saturation value to generate the plurality of colors.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein generating the plurality of colors comprises:
varying the hue value to generate the plurality of colors.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein generating the plurality of colors comprises:
varying the lightness value, the saturation value, and the hue value to generate the plurality of colors.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein selecting the swatch configuration comprises:
selecting the swatch configuration based on a lightness classification for the image, wherein each of the plurality of swatch configurations are associated with a different lightness classification.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The method of claim 6, wherein the lightness classification is based on a lightness characteristic of the image.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of swatch configurations include different values for the saturation value or the lightness value.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the hue value for the plurality of swatch configurations is determined from the information associated with the characteristic of the image.

### Claim 10

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium containing instructions, that when executed, control a computer system to be configured for:
receiving a plurality of swatch configurations that each define combinations for lightness values, saturation values, and hue values;
receiving information associated with a characteristic of an image;
selecting a swatch configuration based on the information, wherein the swatch configuration defines a plurality of combinations for lightness values, saturation values, and hue values;
generating a plurality of colors using the plurality of combinations for lightness values, saturation values, and hue values by varying at least one of the saturation value, the lightness value, and the hue value for the plurality of colors; and
applying the plurality of colors to an interface that is displaying the image.

### Claim 11

A method comprising:
selecting, by a computing device, an image of a video;
retrieving, by a computing device, information to identify a swatch configuration from a plurality of swatch configurations that each define combinations for lightness values, saturation values, and hue values, wherein the swatch configuration is associated with the image based on a characteristic of the image; and
sending, by the computing device, the information to identify the swatch configuration to a client device, wherein the swatch configuration allows the client to generate a plurality of colors using a plurality of combinations for lightness values, saturation values, and hue values by varying at least one of the saturation value, the lightness value, and the hue value for the plurality of colors.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, further comprising:
receiving a request for the image, wherein the image is to be displayed in an interface for the client device.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, further comprising:
analyzing the characteristic of the image;
selecting the information to identify the swatch configuration based on the characteristic; and
storing the information in association with the image.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein selecting the swatch configuration from the plurality of swatch configurations based on the characteristic comprises:
determining a lightness characteristic of the image, wherein the swatch configuration is associated with the lightness characteristic, wherein each of the plurality of swatch configurations is associated with a different lightness characteristic.

### Claim 15 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, further comprising:
selecting a lightness characteristic, wherein the swatch configuration defines a lightness value to use for the lightness characteristic in the plurality of combinations for lightness values, saturation values, and hue values.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

The method of claim 15, wherein the swatch configuration defines a saturation value for the plurality of combinations for lightness values, saturation values, and hue values.

### Claim 17 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, further comprising:
sending information for a hue value to use in the plurality of combinations for lightness values, saturation values, and hue values.

### Claim 18 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, wherein the plurality of colors are generated by:
varying the lightness value or the saturation value to generate the plurality of colors.

### Claim 19 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, wherein the plurality of colors are generated by:
varying the hue value to generate the plurality of colors.

### Claim 20 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, wherein different client devices are sent different swatch configurations.
