Abstract
A hanger for attaching veneer to a surface and space the veneer away from the surface to permit moisture to escape. The hanger contains features around which veneer material adheres during curing and features for attaching the hanger to a surface.
Claims18
An apparatus for attaching veneer to a surface comprising:
- A) a substantially flat body member,
- B) a plurality of substantially flat features configured to accept means for attaching said body member to a surface,
- C) a plurality of means, integral with said body member, for attaching said body member to a piece of veneer, and
- D) a plurality of standoff features attached to said body member extending away from said body member to a plane defined by said plurality of features configured to accept means for attaching said body member to a surface.

A method of attaching a mounting bracket to a piece of veneer comprising:
- A) placing a quantity of liquid veneer material in a veneer mold wherein said veneer mold comprises:
- I) a bottom face corresponding with a front surface of a veneer piece made using said veneer mold, and
- II) an at least partially open top face corresponding with a back surface of a veneer piece made using said veneer mold;
- B) pressing a mounting bracket into said liquid veneer material in said veneer mold while said liquid veneer material is liquid wherein said mounting bracket comprises:
- I) a body member,
- II) a plurality of features configured to accept means for attaching said body member to a surface,
- III) a plurality of means, integral with said body member, for attaching said body member to a piece of veneer,
- IV) a plurality of voids in said body member adjacent said plurality of means, integral with said body member, for attaching said body member to a piece of veneer, and
- V) a plurality of indexing features configured to align said mounting bracket with a plurality of features of said veneer mold;
- C) aligning said mounting bracket with said veneer mold using said indexing features;
- D) optically inspecting said mounting bracket and said veneer mold to confirm the depth of said mounting bracket in said liquid veneer material is sufficient to provide the necessary degree of attachment between said liquid veneer material and said mounting bracket;
- and
- E) retaining said mounting bracket in position relative to said liquid veneer material and said veneer mold until said liquid veneer material is sufficiently cured to prevent movement of said mounting bracket relative to said liquid veneer material and said veneer mold.
