Abstract
The present invention relates to compositions in the form of precursor glass powders, pastes and preforms comprising said precursor glass powders and glass-ceramics produced from the precursor glass powders, pastes or preforms. The present invention also relates to a method of forming a seal between a first and second material with a glass-ceramic, and a joint comprising a first material, a second material and a glass-ceramic sealing material joining the first and second materials together.
Claims27
A glass precursor sealing composition comprising:
- (I) 12-40 mol % MgO;
- (II) 14-40 mol % CaO;
- and
- (III) 35-47 mol % SiO2;
- wherein the composition is free of Al2O3 and B2O3;
- and wherein the total (MgO+CaO) content (mol %) is greater than or equal to the SiO2 content (mol %).
A glass precursor sealing composition comprising:
- (I) 12-40 mol % MgO;
- (II) 14-40 mol % CaO;
- and
- (III) 40-45 mol % SiO2;
- wherein the composition is free of Al2O3 and B2O3;
- wherein the total (MgO+CaO) content (mol %) is greater than or equal to the SiO2 content (mol %);
- and
- wherein the composition further comprises one or more of ZrO2, TiO2, P2O5, BaO, Y2O3, or Nb2O5;
- or
- wherein the composition further comprises one or more of transition metal oxide(s), further alkaline earth oxide(s), GeO2 and P2O5.
A glass-ceramic composition comprising:
- (I) 12-40 mol % MgO;
- (II) 14-40 mol % CaO;
- and
- (III) 35-47 mol % SiO2;
- wherein the composition is free of Al2O3 and B2O3;
- wherein the total (MgO+CaO) content (mol %) is greater than or equal to the SiO2 content (mol %).
A glass precursor sealing composition consisting of:
- (I) 12-40 mol % MgO;
- (II) 14-40 mol % CaO;
- and
- (III) 35-47 mol % SiO2;
- wherein the total (MgO+CaO) content (mol %) is greater than or equal to the SiO2 content (mol %).
