Abstract
The present disclosure provides a parachute comprising a fabric-based canopy and a crown area air inlet formed in the fabric-based canopy. The crown area air inlet may be aligned with areas of highest external pressure acting on an external surface of the canopy as the parachute inflates in order to increase a rate of inflation of the parachute.
Claims15
A parachute, comprising:
- a canopy;
- and
- a crown area air inlet formed in the canopy, wherein the crown area air inlet is aligned with areas of highest external pressure acting on an external surface of the canopy as the parachute inflates in order to increase a rate of inflation of the parachute.
A method of inflating a parachute, the method comprising:
- causing a payload to exit an aircraft, the parachute coupled to the payload;
- deploying the parachute to cause air to enter the parachute through an inlet located at the skirt of the parachute;
- and
- admitting, into the interior of the parachute canopy via a crown area air inlet, at least a portion of higher pressure external air that formed below a parachute canopy apex responsive to the deploying.
